In 1984, the dream of Grothus Dragbikes began with the purchase of a 1976 KZ 900 with a full wind jammer fairing and a set of wheelie bars. Over the next 13 years, Grothus Dragbikes became so much more. By 1997, Ed Grothus, owner/rider, had compiled 5 national championships on multiple bikes & in various classes. In the mid-90's, Grothus Dragbikes was a force to be reckoned with on tracks nationwide. Grothus Dragbikes had grown from racing that first Kawasaki streetbike to full on chassis and dragbike production with customers across the US.

In the fall of 1996, owners/parents Ed and Judy made the decision to shut down business, cease all travel, and focus all time and efforts on raising their 4 boys Brunson, Bryon, Brody and Bradley. Now, many high school state championships later in both baseball and wrestling for each of the boys as well as college degrees, the GDB family is back at it with racing and parts manufacturing.

In 2013, the national championship hunt for Grothus Dragbikes was again successful, but this time with oldest son Brunson Grothus in the seat. Brunson racked up 2 national titles in both pro-mod and pro-ET to start the legacy of Grothus Dragbikes next generation. In 2017, Brunson was again crowned a national champion in pro-mod. The following year, he followed up with a  runner-up in the national points series. That next generation is now growing larger as sons Brody and Bradley are beginning to build seat-time.
